Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: October 25, 2026
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") is incorporated into, and forms part of, the Terms of Service between you and Ulo Cloud LLC ("Ulo"). It applies to anything run on or through a Ulo VPS, the client panel, or our network. Violating this AUP is a violation of the Terms of Service and may result in immediate suspension or termination of your service under the Terms, including without prior notice for severe or ongoing violations.
1. Overview
Ulo gives every customer full KVM virtualization, root shell access, and the ability to install a custom ISO. That freedom is the product — but on shared, physical hardware, a small number of activities can degrade performance or longevity for every customer on that machine, or get our IP ranges blacklisted for everyone. This policy exists to draw a clear line around those specific activities, not to restrict what you can otherwise build and run.
2. Prohibited conduct
You may not use the Service to:
- violate any applicable local, state, federal, or international law or regulation;
- infringe any copyright, trademark, trade secret, or other intellectual property right;
- transmit spam, unsolicited bulk email, or participate in any email, SMS, or messaging abuse;
- host or distribute malware, phishing infrastructure, botnet command-and-control, or credential-stuffing tools;
- impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation;
- interfere with or circumvent the security, integrity, or proper functioning of the Service, our network, or any other customer's server.
3. Resource & hardware abuse
Every plan is sold with dedicated RAM and storage, and we do not oversell capacity — but sustained, maximal utilization of a resource for a purpose unrelated to your actual workload still wears down shared physical hardware (drives, in particular) faster than normal use. The following are restricted:
- Cryptocurrency mining of any kind (Bitcoin, Chia, Monero, or otherwise), including "plotting" or storage-mining variants, is not permitted on any plan unless you have a separate written agreement with us for dedicated mining hardware.
- Sustained, artificial 100% CPU, disk I/O, or bandwidth load with no legitimate underlying application purpose (e.g., synthetic benchmarking loops left running indefinitely, or disk-thrashing scripts) is not permitted.
- Running a VPS as a shared seedbox, file-sharing hub, or public file-storage/CDN service at a scale that degrades the node for other customers is not permitted without prior written approval.
Legitimate, resource-intensive workloads — game servers, build pipelines, databases, render jobs, and similar — are exactly what your plan is for, and are welcome. This section targets sustained abuse of shared hardware, not ordinary heavy use of resources you've paid for.
4. Network abuse & outbound attacks
Ulo includes always-on edge DDoS protection on every plan to protect your server from incoming attacks. In exchange, we require that nothing on our network is used to generate outbound attacks or network abuse of any kind, including:
- launching or participating in a denial-of-service (DoS/DDoS) attack against any third party;
- port scanning, vulnerability scanning, or network reconnaissance against systems you do not own or have explicit written authorization to test;
- running IP stress-testing / "booter" or "stresser" services, whether advertised as for authorized testing or not;
- IP or DNS spoofing, packet flooding, or any other traffic pattern intended to disrupt a network or service.
We reserve the right to immediately null-route (block all network traffic to/from) or suspend any VPS we reasonably believe is generating malicious, abusive, or attacking outbound traffic, without prior notice, to protect our network and other customers. We will attempt to notify you after the fact where practical.
5. Tor exit nodes & anonymizing services
Running a Tor exit node (as opposed to a Tor relay/bridge, which is permitted) is not permitted on any Ulo VPS, due to the high rate of abuse complaints and IP blacklisting associated with exit traffic on shared network ranges. Open, unauthenticated VPN or proxy relays that allow anonymous third-party traffic to exit through your VPS are subject to the same restriction and the network-abuse rules in Section 4 above if used for disruptive purposes.
6. Illegal content & activity
You may not use the Service to store, distribute, or transmit content that is illegal under applicable law, including but not limited to child sexual abuse material (zero tolerance — reported to the relevant authorities immediately upon discovery), content that infringes third-party intellectual property rights, or content/activity that facilitates fraud, terrorism, or other criminal conduct.
7. Enforcement
We may investigate suspected violations of this AUP and take action we deem appropriate, including warning you, suspending your VPS, null-routing its network traffic, or terminating your account, with or without prior notice depending on severity. We are not obligated to provide advance notice where we reasonably believe immediate action is necessary to protect our network, infrastructure, or other customers.
8. Reporting abuse
If you believe a Ulo-hosted server is being used in violation of this policy, contact [email protected] with as much detail as possible (IP address, timestamps, logs, and a description of the activity).
